Mountain Counties Water Resources Association Welcomes North Yuba Water District to Membership


MOUNTAIN COUNTIES, Calif. (November 06, 2024) – The Mountain Counties Water Resources Association (MCWRA) is proud to announce that North Yuba Water District (NYWD) has joined its Executive Membership, strengthening collaborative efforts to address the critical water resource needs unique to California’s Sierra Nevada and mountain regions.  Founded in 1952, NYWD provides domestic and irrigation services to more than 900 customers covering a nearly 200 square mile region.

Joining the Mountain Counties Water Resources Association is a meaningful step in our commitment to renew North Yuba Water District’s dedication to proactive water management and regional collaboration,” said Marieke Furnee, President of the North Yuba Water District Board of Directors.  “Our board is committed to making impactful changes, and partnering with MCWRA will help us bring fresh perspectives, essential resources, and critical advocacy to ensure our community’s water needs are met.  We’re excited to work alongside fellow members to bring positive, lasting change to the region.”

The addition of NYWD represents a significant expansion of MCWRA's coalition, bringing together local and regional agencies dedicated to safeguarding water reliability, promoting sustainable resource management, and protecting the natural landscapes that provide water to millions of Californians.  Serving the foothills and communities of Yuba County, NYWD shares MCWRA’s commitment to addressing the myriad challenges faced by our region’s water managers.

“North Yuba Water District’s addition enhances our collective voice and strengthens our ability to advocate for the resources and policies our region needs,” said Justin Caporusso, Executive Director of MCWRA.  “We look forward to working closely with North Yuba Water District in developing innovative solutions that benefit not only our member agencies but also the communities and ecosystems that depend on our mountain water resources.”

MCWRA serves a total of 49 Executive, Affiliate, and Associate Members across 12 of California’s mountain counties, including Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mariposa, Mono, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sierra, Tuolumne, and Yuba Counties.

Mountain Counties Water Resources Association Mission is to unite agencies, groups and individuals whose interests include protecting and enhancing Mountain County water resources.  This Mission is realized through strengthening Members’ regional leadership, collaboration, information sharing, issue awareness, education, advocacy, and potential legislative action or legal support.
