Public Records Requests - Financial Cost Summary
October 9
2022
In 1975, the California legislature passed the "Public Records Act" designed to give the public access to information in the possession of public agencies. The idea was simple and admirable, those who foot the bill for public activities have the right to know what's going on by submitting a Public Record Request or a "PRA".
Unfortunately for NYWD ratepayers, a handful of serial PRA requesters have cost our District a significant amount of time and money. Because these same few individuals also have filed lawsuits against the District, PRA responses are handled by the District's attorneys.
Here is a summary of recent costs associated with providing the information to the serial requestors:
PRA Requestor's Name | Cost to the District
Period 4/1/21 - 9/30/22
-
Charles Sharp | $56,519.27
-
Marie "Marieke" Furnee | $22,863.12
-
Gretchen Flohr | $21,848.80
-
Jenny Cavaliere | $4,535.00
-
Israel Perla | $3,869.00
